The tombs
The castellucian tombs of the necropoli show an evident homogeneity regarding to the shape and size of the room. All of them have an «oven» shape, a circular or ovoid plan and quite restricted dimensions. The vaults of the sepulchral rooms are curvilinear and few of them are well-preserved over time. The portal generally has an ovoid or sub-trapezoidal shape.
These are artificial tombs «a groticella» (little grotto), dug in the rock, which are the most frequent type of tombs until the Greek colonization, and which present three different variants: the tomb «a groticella» with circular room, the one with a corridor access (dromos) and the one with a double room; the grotto's entrance was closed with a slab of stone and often, on the rock wall, the cut made to embed it can still be identified.
