Erice Mozia Paceco Segesta Seline Selununte Trapani Velderice Zingaro

Lo Zingaro

It's the first Sicilian oriented natural reserve (1600 ha), extending along seven kilometres in the northern coast of Western Sicily, between S.Vito Lo Capo and Castellammare Del Golfo.
It's a series of hillsides sloping to the sea, drawing from above some little coves linked by narrow footpaths climbing up the hills, in one of the most unpolluted places in the Mediterranean. In this area almost forty races of birds nest, among which peregrine falcons, Bonelli's eagles, buzzards, kestrels, kites and other birds included in the list of endangered species. There are also a lot of porcupines and foxes. The environment is an oasis of biodiversity; rich of rare native plants, endangered in other places. The dwarf palm , growing everywhere, is the symbol of the reserve. In theUzzo cave in the middle of the reserve, there is a prehistorical very important site. While the Uzzo tower, on the top of a slope and the little tuna fishing beach, are very charming sites. In the surroundings there is a very little charming village called Scopello, with a "Baglio" (a rural house) in the middle and some craftsmen working ceramics in their shops, and the old tuna-fishing building. Near the site there are two wonderful coast towers the warehouses and the equipments for the tuna fishing. The tuna-fishing building is in a narrow site next to the wonderful rocks called "Faraglioni". This place was the centre of the old village called Cetaria and later Iscubul Iakut .
